Record Keeping
The Ancient Egyptians developed a system of record keeping to keep track of the days of the year. They created a 365 day calendar that is based off of information they obtained from astronomy. This form of record keep was advanced and versions of it are still used today. The Egyptians also invented a system of writing called Hieroglyphics.
The system of Hieroglyphics is a form of writing that is made up of symbols to transmit information from one person to another using writing. Scribes were Egyptian people that wrote Hieroglyphics were called scribes. The scribes were the only people in ancient Egypt that could read and write Hieroglyphics. The scribes wrote on a special type of paper developed by the Egyptians call papyrus. In addition to writing on papyrus the Egyptians also would write on the tomb walls. This information has been found a translated by historians and paleontologists.
A very useful artifact used to decode Hieroglyphics is the Rosetta Stone. This stone contained several languages and translations. By using this we now how a pretty good idea of how to understand Hieroglyphics.
