Advanced Technology
The Nile is the longest river in the world, stretching north for approximately 4,000 miles from East Africa to the Mediterranean. The Nile River flows South to North. Boats were a big part of both travel and trade in Ancient Egypt because of the Nile River. They traveled because of the wind speed and the running waters. This advanced technology gave Egyptians a way of trade for vital materials such as gold, silver, copper, and stones. Egyptians were very cautious of this River because the River was very unpredictable and they feared being away from home.
Pyramids were tombs built for pharaohs. The Egyptian kings wanted to preserve their bodies for the next life. The Egyptians put the king's body, his treasures, and his last meal in the tomb. Each block was made of fairly rough low grades limestone with copper chisels and wedges were used to shape each block. Each block was about seven feet high, eighteen feet long and weighed as much as two tons. The builders didn't have many tools so it was mostly hand made with simple tools such as wedges, hammers, ropes, and ramps. These pyramids is another form of advanced technology in Ancient Egypt.
The Ancient Egyptian calendar is a little different from ours today. There were ten days in a week, three weeks in a month, four months in a season, three seasons in a year, and five holy days. That adds up to a 365-day year. The Egyptians were the first people to come up with the 365-day year. Egyptian based this calender on sighting of stars and flooding each year.
